The Jawa CZ Owners Club has
information on motorcycles made from 1929 to 2006. Although we cannot always
precisely date machines, as JAWA CZ regarded engine/frame numbers as state
secrets for the majority of its existence, we can provide a dating
certificate acceptable to DVLA.
To
obtain a dating certificate it is necessary to contact the club archivist
via our website in the first instance, or by using the address at the front
of Torque, the Club magazine.
In all
cases, it is necessary to supply, in
writing by post, the FULL engine and frame numbers including
all prefixes or suffixes and other data from the headstock / VIN plate. You will also need to
supply good clear pencil rubbings of the engine and frame numbers or
alternatively good quality photographs. As a minimum you should have
photos of both sides of the bike, the engine number, and the frame number.
Photographs and rubbings should be
endorsed as correct and signed by the applicant. Details of old
registration numbers, or if you have any original Bills of Sale or Service
documents then this will make the job much easier. Also needed is some
information as to what you think the bike is, and what year it may be made,
if it is relevant.
In fact, any dated information you can supply on your machine will make
your case that much stronger. Please note that materials supplied will be
retained for our records unless return requested and postage supplied. We
are required by DVLA to keep records of all Machine Dating requests.

This is the
DVLA Procedure to follow:
A)
If your vehicle does not have a registration number:-
-
Obtain
proof of the year of manufacture of the vehicle from a club or
organisation relevant to the make, model or type of vehicle. (Dating
Certificate).
-
Arrange MOT
Test Certificate and Insurance cover. This can be done using the frame
number.
-
Contact
your nearest Vehicle Registration Office and explain what you wish to do. They may wish to inspect
the vehicle, but in any event they can tell you how to proceed.
-
Complete
V55/5 application form and submit to your nearest Vehicle Registration
Office together with your
dating information, Test Certificate, Insurance documents and appropriate
licence fee.
-
If the
Vehicle Registration Office
is satisfied with the application they will issue an appropriate age
related registration number. N.B. - Non-suffix numbers are issued non-transferably.
The tax disc will be issued straight away. The registration
document should follow within six weeks.

B)
If your vehicle has its original registration number:-
-
Use form V765 and forward to
the Jawa CZ Owners Club as the authorising vehicle
club to date and stamp form. The V765 will be returned so you can send it
to DVLA to retain the existing number, unless it has been already
reallocated. If this is the case you will be informed by DVLA and reapply
as above at A).

All forms can be found on the DVLA
website. The Jawa CZ Owners Club is a member of the FBHVC
and on the DVLA's list of approved clubs for validation of UK
based motorcycles, so please
contact us.
Although
rare, should the DVLA insist that the inspection of a motorcycle by a Club
Technical Expert be necessary to clarify its authentication, all expenses
incurred will be charged accordingly to both club members and non-members
alike.
There
is no charge for club members using our services but there is a fee of
£25.00 for non members.
If you are a
non-member requesting a letter of authentication, why not also join
the club for a year then get the
dating service free alongside other club services?
Please
note that the final decision on acceptance of all applications rests with
the DVLA and, if rejected, the Club's fee is not refundable.
