We have
information
available for club members and non-members on JAWA CZ motorcycles made between 1929 and 2006. Although we cannot always precisely date
machines (as JAWA CZ regarded engine / frame numbers as state secrets for
the majority of its existence) we can provide a dating certificate
acceptable to the Driver
and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).
To obtain a dating
certificate it is necessary to contact the club archivist via this website
or using the address at the front of Torque
magazine.
There
is no charge for club members
using this service but there is a fee of £25.00 for non-members.
If you are a non-member requesting a letter of authentication, then
why not join the club for a year (£14.00 + one off £5.00 joining fee)
and get this dating service free alongside other club
services.
In all cases, it is necessary
to supply the FULL engine and frame numbers including all prefixes
or suffixes and other data from the headstock / VIN plate.
You will also need to supply good pencil
rubbings of the engine and frame numbers or alternatively good quality
photographs. As a minimum you should have photos of both sides of the
bike, the Engine Number, and the Frame Number.
Details of old registration numbers, or if you have any original
Bills of Sale or Service documents then this will make the job much easier.
Also needed is some information as to what you think the bike is, and what
year it may be made, if it is relevant. In fact, any
dated information you can supply on your machine will make your case that
much stronger.

This is the DVLA Procedure
to follow:
A)
If your vehicle does not have a registration number:-
-
Obtain proof
of the year of manufacture of the vehicle from a club or organisation
relevant to the make, model or type of vehicle. (Dating Certificate).
-
Arrange MOT
Test Certificate and Insurance cover. This can be done using the frame
number.
-
Contact your
nearest VRO (Vehicle Registration Office) and explain what you wish to
do. They may wish to inspect the vehicle, but in any event they can tell
you how to proceed.
-
Complete V55/5
application form and submit to your nearest VRO together with your
dating information, Test Certificate, Insurance documents and
appropriate licence fee.
-
If the VRO is
satisfied with the application they will issue an appropriate age
related registration number. N.B. - Non-suffix numbers are issued non-transferably.
The Vehicle Excise Disc (Tax Disc) will be issued straight away. The
registration document should follow within six weeks.

B)
If your vehicle has its original registration number:-
All
forms can be found on the DVLA
website. Because we are members of the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs,
the DVLA do usually
accept our validation for UK based machines so please contact
us.
DVLA
may insist that the inspection of a machine by a Club Technical Expert
be necessary to clarify its authentication. All expenses, including travel, accommodation
and meals incurred whilst carrying out this inspection, will be charged
accordingly to both club members and non-members alike.
Please note that the final
decision on acceptance of all applications rests with the DVLA and, if
rejected, the Club's fee is not refundable.
